The workshop explored plants and landscapes as culturally shaped and continuously transforming systems. Landscapes such as fields, meadows, or forests are closely linked to notions of identity and often carry historical and cultural meanings. At the same time, idealised images of nature stand in contrast to highly technified and dynamic agricultural practices.

Contemporary cultural landscapes are shaped by modern agriculture, funding logics, and targeted interventions such as seed mixtures, compensation areas, or biodiversity-enhancing measures. In these processes, ecological, economic, and aesthetic objectives overlap, shaping—and at the same time questioning—our perception of landscape as “natural”.

Against this background, the workshop opened up questions about the design of future landscapes: Which landscapes do we consider beautiful, and what role do technology, production, and cultural imagery play in this perception?
