Testbed

For our workshop on plants and landscapes, we were guests at the Agrargesellschaft Pfiffelbach. Here, we had the opportunity to design a testbed where old and new crop varieties, as well as a variety of cultivation methods, could be experienced side by side within walking distance. The testbed was used in workshops as a space for experience as well as for science communication.

The field consisted of several plots (see planting plan), each marked with signage. It began with beds reminiscent of kitchen gardens, where both traditional and newer crops were cultivated in monocultures as well as mixed cultures. By sowing a field of cornflowers that gradually transitioned into a cereal field, we addressed the tension between wilderness and cultivated, ordered plantings.
